Fun in the Frio Canyon

Looking for things to do off-site while staying at Parkview Riverside RV Park this summer?

There’s always plenty to do a short drive from the park. The famous Frio Canyon – home to the headwaters of the Frio River – runs through the region, offering countless adventures on and near the river. It is indeed a Texas Hill Country Jewel.

Garner State Park, the most visited state park in Texas, is located directly across the Frio River from our park.

Don’t miss nearby the town of Leakey, voted “No. 1 Friendliest Town and No. 1 Small Town” by Ride Texas Magazine.

On the way to Leakey, you’ll come to the Buckhorn Bar & Grill, just five miles up the road on Highway 83, featuring live Texas music every weekend. Upcoming Buckhorn performers include: May 18, Levi Darr; May 24, Phillip Thomas; May 25, Jaron Bell; May 31, Callahan Divide; June 1, Saints Eleven; June 7-8, Phil Hamilton – Philthy on the Frio; June 14, Richie Allbright; and June 15, Rough River Band. Performances begin at 9 p.m., except Philthy on the Frio, which is an all-day event both days including music, food & drink. A shuttle service will transport tubers to float the Frio.

Other fine restaurants in the area include the Mill Creek Café in Leakey, the only restaurant in the area that offers buffet dining, and in Utopia the Lost Maples Café, famous for its homemade pies.

Coming up on Memorial Day weekend is the annual Shrimp Boil at the Bent Rim Grill, a half-mile from downtown Leakey on Ranch Road 337 west. Leakey is conveniently located relatively close to most of the campgrounds and outfitters in the canyon. The event is sponsored by the Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

In July, the chamber sponsors its annual July Jubilee in Leakey. This will be an exciting 2-day event starting on Friday, July 5, with a street dance and on Saturday a parade, arts and crafts, food vendors and then a grand finale Street Dance that night. A rodeo will be going on as well.

To be part of these and other events coming up in the near future, book your stay now at Parkview Riverside RV Park to guarantee a campsite this summer.
